Measuring the Effects of Food Carbon Footprint Training on Consumers
نویسندگان
چکیده
The supply chains through which foods are produced, processed, and transported can have a significant impact on the environment in terms of the carbon dioxide (CO2) that is emitted during each of these phases; however, little research has incorporated information about environmental impact into supply chain scenarios. Moreover, many consumers are unaware of how their food choices may impact the environment in this way. To fill these gaps, a tool called CarbonScope was developed to show consumers the CO2 emissions associated with different food types and food transportation scenarios. A short training was designed that walks participants through various food scenarios using CarbonScope. Participants from a major urban university were given preand post-training surveys to capture a) user reactions, b) learning gains, c) intentions to transfer the knowledge gained, and d) changes in beliefs about their individual environmental impact. The training resulted in significantly higher post-training knowledge test scores and environmental impact beliefs. Furthermore, most participants indicated that they intend to use the knowledge they gained from the training than not.

Measuring the Longitudinal Effects of Food Carbon Footprint Training on Consumers: Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavioral Intentions
Consumers are not likely to be aware of how their food choices impact the environment, the impact of which is often measured by the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted or released during the production and transportation of the food.2 The environmental impact of food production varies considerably by food type as well as by supply chain logistics— such as how far the food travels from produc...
متن کاملA Step toward a Sustainable Diet by Reducing Carbon Footprint: A Case Study in Iran
Introduction: Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have caused environmental effects. Food production is one of the sources of GHGs. This study aimed to suggest dietary scenarios for decreasing GHG emissions. Materials and Methods: GHG emissions in the target population of Urmia city, Northwest Iran, were investigated using a modeling approach. Three dietary scenarios were modeled and analyzed to ev...
متن کاملTo Review the Situation of Carbon Footprint in Iran Trade Balance by CGE Approach
Pollutants of Carbon flow virtually by streaming the Goods and services among the countries. Due to the Carbon Footprint (CFP) in economical divisions as well as subdivisions in Iran, the main objective of this paper is to specify the effects of Carbon footprint on import and export of various sections in the framework of Computable General Equilibrium Model. It’s used the social accounting mat...
متن کاملEnvironmental impact food labels combining carbon, nitrogen, and water footprints
The environmental impact of the production and consumption of food is seldom depicted to consumers. The footprint of food products provides a means for consumers to compare environmental impacts across and within product groups. In this study we apply carbon, nitrogen, and water footprints in tandem and present food labels that could help inform consumers about the environmental impacts of indi...
متن کاملSensitivity analysis of parameters affecting carbon footprint of fossil fuel power plants based on life cycle assessment scenarios
In this study a pseudo comprehensive carbon footprint model for fossil fuel power plants is presented. Parameters which their effects are considered in this study include: plant type, fuel type, fuel transmission type, internal consumption of the plant, degradation, site ambient condition, transmission and distribution losses. Investigating internal consumption, degradation and site ambient con...
